Oct. 4 (ESAT) Teachers in North Shewa that have refused to be co-opted into the ruling party are being harassed and persecuted, ESAT sources revealed.
Some of teachers that have been victimized by the ruling party’s forceful membership recruitment drive have told ESAT that those who have refused to join the Ethiopian People’s Democratic Front (EPRDF) have been accused of being harboring dissenting views, collaborating with the opposition and advancing their own political views.
In a letter written by the North Showa Police Department, Amhara Zone, and addressed to Haile Mariam Mamo Secondary School, it was reported that Berhanu Asibalehu, Baile Derseh and Aseffa Wondimu were being hunted down as they were found to be promoting their own political views and terrorist organizations at the school’s premises.
The letter further alleges that the three teachers were found, as per evidence and documents police claimed to have seized, to be collaborating with terrorist organizations. Police told the school that the fugitives, who were organizing others to rise up against the government, will be brought to justice once they are apprehended.
Our source added that the whereabouts of the teachers is still unknown but police insists that they should be brought to justice.
