Members of Ethiopian Federal Police Forces stationed in Afar region are accused of willful killing of individual citizens. The report compiled by our reporter says the two individuals were at the regional state police’s custody the extrajudicial killing is yet another indication of how fast Afar Regional State is becoming a lawless state.
The Federal Police Forces have dumped the corpses of the two individuals in front of the regional council’s building.
Many believe this current murder of two individuals is connected to previous incidents reported by ESAT.
Weeks ago ESAT reported the murder of a 17 year old Afari boy by Federal Polices Forces and in what many believed to be a revenge attack two police member s of the Ethiopian Federal Police were murdered and the killers were not caught for a long while.
There was suspicion by the Dubti Locality police in the region that the revenge killing might have been perpetrated by the relatives of the 17 year old boy and accordingly the Dubti Police Murder Squad summarily imprisoned 12 of his immediate family members of the 17 year old boy previously killed.
The Dubti Locality Police Department was in the process of starting investigation on the murder of the two Federal Police members when a team led by Inspector Aynalem who was reportedly sent from Addis Ababa to investigate the matter killed the two individuals who were under the region’s police custody.
The Dubti Locality Police Chief in a statement he gave to our reporter said “This level of brutality and lawlessness by a law enforcement agent is not common in Africa. Residents of the region are fast loosing confidence in the police forces and it is not a good sign at all.”
Asked to comment on this current incident, the Afar Human Rights Chairman, Gaas Ahmed, said “This is a nature of only a brigand government. And it is indeed fast becoming a lawless
